The entity Gijón Turismo has been awarded the Touristic Quality Prize by Executives magazine, which is the most outstanding pubication of this sort after its 20 years history. According to the magazine, this first edition of the Asturias Executives Prize aims at giving this award to Gijón Tourism due to its "serious committment to high quality tourism". The last "Executives" issue tells how in March 2002 Infogijón became the first Touristic Information Service in Spain which was certified according to the ISO 9001:2000 directive. It is also necessary to stand out the implication of Gijón Tourism in the project "Mission: Excelent Companies", promoted by the Asturian Quality Club, which achieved the 300+ Hallmark. Currently, the entity is seriously committed to the Spanish Touristic Quality System, better known as "Q" from touristic quality. Proof of that is the certification of the Touristic Information Service of Gijón (Infogijón) and the Convention Bureau of Gijón, which promotes the city as a destination for the celebration of conferences and congresses. With the aim of increasing the committment to quality the Association for Touristic Quality (AGICATUR) was created in 2004. More than 300 companies are part of it, which gives us clues about its importance within the city. Another aim of this association is advising entities which have decided to implement quality management services in their activity and promote cooperation between entities and work as a nexus among companies, fostering the use of the new information and communication technologies. The event was attended by the Majoress of Gijón, Paz Fernández Felgueroso and the councillor for Economic Promotion and Innovation José María Pérez.
