The Spanish City Councils Transparency Index for 2017 have been made public
The results from the City Councils Transparency Index have been made public. This index evaluates the performance regarding transparency in the main Spanish City Councils thanks to 80 indicators related to six areas of transparency:

  • Active transparency and Information about the City Council
  • Relationship with citizens, society and citizen participation
  • Economic and financial transparency
  • Transparency in procurements, conventions, subsidies and service costs
  • Transparency regarding Urbanism, public works and the environment
  • Right to access information
Transparency International is the only non-governmental organisation that fights corruption internationally, assembling the civil society, the private sector and governments in one single global coalition. The analysis made by this entity in 110 Spanish municipalities, Gijón complies with all the requisites formulated regarding transparency, sharing the first position in the ranking with other 24 municipalities.

This positive result is the labour of the efforts made by our City Council during the last years regarding transparency, and is linked very directly with the new Transparency, Access and Reuse of Information and Good Government Ordinance, that is currently being implemented.

All the indicators related to Gijón are published on the Transparency website: on this link are the data from 2017, and on this other link you can take a look at past data starting in 2009.
