The first stage of the Participatory Budget triples the participation from last year

The first stage of the Participatory Budget 2018 ended Friday 7th July, closing the period for submission and voting of the proposals.

More than 3,200 people have emitted a total of 10,000 votes, shared between 334 proposals, ever since May 22nd.

The number of people that have voted increased by 210% compared to the last edition and during this stage more than 3,500 citizens have registered at the presupuestosparticipativos.gijon.es .

To promote participation, more than 75 deliberative spaces have been made with cultural, social and neighbourhood associations, both from the rural and urban areas, almost all the municipality’s associations were contacted by phone and at the municipal media libraries and Citizen Services Offices have helped, as well as enabling an assistance service via telephone and WhatsApp.

The 331 proposals published on the web platform during the first stage have received a total of 10,004 votes emitted by 3,216 individuals. Due to the established criteria to preselect a proposal was to be supported by at least 5% of the people voting, all the proposals that will carry on to the next stage of study and technical reports have obtained at least 161 votes. Today, Gijón is three times more participative than last year thanks to all the people who have taken part in the proposals to improve the city.
