Special fares for public transport

The Gijon City Council, through the Public Foundation of Social Services and the Public Transport Company EMTUSA, has established special fares to benefit people who, due to age and level of income, should be given a more favorable treatment.

The fares are the following:

.SOCIAL FARES

A Under 26 year of age0,63
BOver 65 years of age  0,63
CNon contributive pension holders (retirement or disability)
Free
D-Absolute and permanent disability contributive pension holders with an income in the family inferior to the minimum wage.
- Total and permanent disability contributive pension holders with a disability of over 64%, recognized by the suitable organism within the Public Administration, with an income in the family unit inferior to the minimum wage.
-Retirement pension holders with an income in the family unit inferior to the minimum wage.

  • In the case of the over 65s and under 26s who have the Citizen Card, they can immediately charge the card with that allowance.

  • When you have the Citizen Card with the special fare allowance, the card can be charged in the EMTUSA offices for the period that the card is valid. To apply for the allowance or if your card with the reduced fare has expired, the process explained below must be followed.

  •  In the case of Non Contributive Pension Holders the following procedure must be followed in order to have a right to the reduced fare.

Who has the right to apply for it?

  • Non-contributive pension holders.

Where can I apply for it?

In the Citizen Service Offices.

  • Centro Municipal Integrado de El Coto
  • Centro Municipal Integrado de La Arena
  • Centro Municipal Integrado de Gijón Sur
  • Centro Municipal Integrado de La Calzada
  • Centro Municipal Integrado de El Llano


If you still do not have the citizen card


The request should be submitted to any of the offices mentioned above, by the person entitled to the allowance, attaching the following documentation:

  1. One passport-size photo.
  2. Photocopy of the Identity Card.
  3. Any document proving the Non-Contributive Pension of the current year, issued by the corresponding Administration organism (original or certified copy).
The card will be collected as indicated in the application form.

If you already have a citizen card


The request should be submitted in any of the previously mentioned Citizen Service Offices, by the person entitled to the allowance, attaching the relevant documentation mentioned in point C of the previous chapter stating in writing that you already have the card.

The person granted with this allowance will be informed by the Citizen Service Office. The Card must be activated within 72 hours following the presentation of the request in the EMTUSA offices:

  • Plaza del Humedal
  • Oficina de El Cerillero.
For Pension holders, with the right to a reduced fare and who don`t have the card for special fares in use, must follow this procedure:

Request for special reduced fare for urban transport


The following people can apply for it:

  • Absolute and Permanent Disability Pension Holders with an income within the family unit inferior to the professional minimum wage. When the pension holder lives with a partner, the income of both parties cannot exceed the professional minimum wage by more than 25%.
  • Total and Permanent Disability Pension Holders with a disability superior to 64%, recognized by the suitable organism within the Public Administration, with an income in the family unit inferior to the minimum wage. When the pension holder lives with a partner the income of both parties cannot exceed the professional minimum wage by more than 25%.
  • Retirement Pension Holders with an income within the family unit inferior to the professional minimum wage. When the holder lives with a partner, the income of both parties cannot exceed the professional minimum wage by more than 25%.

If you still do not have the citizen card

The request will be submitted by the claim holder to the Social Services Center of the area corresponding to the person`s address, with the following documentation:

  1. One passport size picture
  2. Photocopy of the Identity Card
  3. Original or certified copy of any document proving the Contributive Pension.

  • In the case of Total Permanent Contributed Disability Pension with a disability of over 64%, an examination certificate is needed.
  • The income certificate must be of the current year.
  • The Card will be collected as indicated in the application form.

If you still do not have

The request will be submitted by the claim holder to the Social Services Center of the area corresponding to the person`s address, with the documentation mentioned in point C of the previous chapter stating in writing that you already have the card.

The Social Services Foundation will notify the applicant, as well as the Citizen Service Office and the Public Transport Company, of the concession or rejection of the reduced fare.
